Red Firecracker, Russelia equisetiformis, is a striking, multi-branched ornamental shrub with wispy stems and bright red blooms. Also known as Coral Fountain, its 1” long, tubular, coral-red flowers seem to flow in waterfalls around the mounding plant. Growing to about 6' wide and 3' tall, firecracker plant has very few and tiny leaves on the many bright green branches that weep to the ground. It can tolerate salt, wind, dry or wet conditions, but will need protection in temperatures below 40°F. Firecracker is a popular nectar plant for hummingbirds and butterflies. Happy in the ground or in containers, firecracker will add grace, whimsy, and a touch of tropical feel to any garden setting. Grown at Creekside Nursery in 3 gallon containers.
