Giant Milkweed - Calotropis

Giant Milkweed, Calotropis gigantea, is a striking perennial plant easily recognizable by its large, leathery leaves and clusters of waxy, star-shaped flowers that can be white or lavender.  Growing over 6 feet tall and wide, this is one of the largest species in a group of plants that are larval hosts to monarch butterflies.  With its sheer sizes, giant milkweed bounces back quickly from caterpillar feasts.  Beyond its ecological importance, giant milkweed is a valuable addition to pollinator gardens and naturalized areas, providing aesthetic appeal with its unique flowers and robust growth.  It is drought tolerant and can thrive in poor soil conditions, making it a resilient choice for various landscapes and ideal for the back layer of a butterfly garden.  Grown at Creekside nursery in 7 gallon containers.
