Orange Drop Iris

Orange Drop Iris is an evergreen perennial that can get to be two to three feet tall at maturity. It has beautiful cream colored flowers that have distinctive orange spots at the base of the petals. Each flower will only last a day, but the plant will continue to bloom throughout the spring and summer months! Orange Drop has short, dark and narrow green leaves. It is originally from South Africa. Orange Drop does particularly well in South Texas.

Caryopteris Dark Knight

Caryopteris Dark Knight is a compact, attractive deciduous perennial that requires full sun and is an overall low maintenance plant. It has showy flowers and fragrant foliage. ‘Dark Knight’ attracts butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects into the landscape. The bloom is a dark blue, purple color and will flower in the late summer when many shrubs are no longer in bloom.

Hostas

The Hosta plant is a beautiful, tough, shade loving perennial. It is grown for its amazing foliage and can be an intensely fragrant plant. It has a beautiful summer bloom and is a very drought tolerant plant. Hosta can be used as a cut flower, a fragrance, a container plant or can simply be enjoyed as a low maintenance plant. Hostas are hardy from Zones 3-9 and are also known as plantain lilies. Native to Japan, Korea and China, Hostas are very shade tolerant, low growing plants with large leaves.

Whirling Butterfly Gaura

Native to the prairies, roadsides, and pond edges of the Deep South, this cultivar of Gaura is a compact, vase shaped perennial with slender arching red stems. During late summer and through the fall it grows pink buds that bloom snowy white flowers. Whirling butterfly has an airy and lovely growth habit. The flowers open only a few at a time and dance in the wind like butterflies. This plant is great as a border plant that will show color late in the year.

Caryopteris 'Dark Knight'

In late summer and early fall, when few other shrubs are in bloom, Caryopteris ‘Dark Knight’ is a showy bloomer. Its deep blue to lavender flowers are very interesting against the gray-green foliage. Beautiful in front of low walls, in mass groupings, as a hedge, or even as a specimen plant, it has a tidy, upright growth habit. It is small enough for a patio garden. Grows to approximately 3’ x 5’.
