This holiday season, Creekside has a beautiful plant to help bring you some cheer, the poinsettia! Known as the Christmas plant, the poinsettia is native to Mexico and Central America. It was first introduced to the United States back in the early 1800s by Joel Robert Poinsett, who was the United States Ambassador to Mexico. The common name we are all familiar with is named after him.
This low maintenance tree is native to Asia and is planted for its decorative value. In the fall, this pear tree offers us a substantial amount of fall color. The glossy green foliage will turn a brilliant copper orange, reminding us of the changing seasons. When this tree flowers in the early spring, it has a beautiful white bloom.

The Hannah Ray Bottlebrush is a small evergreen tree that works as a beautiful specimen or hedge plant. It averages between 10 and 15 feet tall at maturity. It has soft, feathery-like green foliage on the limbs that appear in a slightly weeping form. It has beautiful, bright red flowers, making this a great plant for the landscape! Hannah Ray has larger and showier flowers than the parent species. It requires full sun and good drainage.
The Chile Pequin Pepper is an attractive annual hot pepper. At maturity, it can get to be between two and four feet tall. It has white flowers and little red peppers that are extremely hot. The Chile Pequin is about ten times hotter than a jalapeno pepper, hitting approximately 40,000 to 60,000 units on the scoville scale! The Chile Pequin has low water requirements and is very heat tolerant. It is easy to grow and is an excellent xeriscaping plant.
