This variety of Jasmine is a self-climbing or sprawling vine. While it is not known for exceptionally visual flowers, its pink, white and green-blushed foliage is the real attention getter. If it is allowed to climb, it will produce tiny yellow very fragrant flowers. New foliage emerges nearly pure white with pink blush and occasional green speckles. Mature leaves are small and oval with a glossy finish. Performs best in Zones 7B-11 and can handle full sun in cooler areas, but needs partial shade in the hotter zones. In mild winter regions, the white, pink, rose and green foliage will add visual interest year-round and the pinks will deepen to a rosy reddish burgundy.

Commonly referred to as a variety of Elephant Ear, this particular beauty stands out on its own with its iridescent puckered leaves of purplish black. Sitting atop multiple dark burgundy-red stems, the leaves unfurl from brownish backs to reveal their inner glossy foliage. Considered a dwarf variety, they can grow 3-4’ H x 3-4’ W and they prefer medium wet, but not soggy soil. However, they have been known to do well in pond edges and around water features. Frost sensitive, they perform best in Zones 8-11. Can be planted as a single specimen, en masse or in large containers, but try to avoid exposure to strong winds. Will do well in full sun to partial shade and doesn’t mind high humidity. The infrequent blooms are usually hidden by the large leaves and this plant is considered deer and rabbit resistant.

The Little John (dwarf) variety is covered with the signature shaped red blooms and is a perfect fit for smaller gardens because its mature growth habit stays within the 3'H x 5'W range. Hummingbirds, butterflies, bees and other pollinators flock to these showy shrubs. Bottlebrushes are heat tolerant, love the sun and can withstand some colder temps as well. Grows beautifully in Zones 8-10 and has an extended blooming season. The blue-green foliage is the perfect complement to the showy red blossoms. Chosen as a Texas SuperStar, the Gold Star variety of Esperanza is a great choice for non-stop golden colored blooms. This is a fast-growing semi-evergreen shrub that produces large clusters of golden-yellow, bell-shaped flowers from late spring well into fall. Great as a showy border and does well as a large container plant, because it can be pruned to maintain a more compact habit. Esperanza is very heat tolerant and loves full sun. Performs best in Zones 9-11 and is attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies. Remove dead flower clusters and seedpods as they form to keep flowers producing.

Also known as Flax Lily, this is an evergreen perennial with grass-like foliage that is streaked green and white. Tall spires of lavender-blue flowers are followed by blue berries. Drought tolerant, and prefers partial shade, but can handle a few daily hours of full sun, especially in the coastal areas. Performs best in rich, loamy soil and thrives in Zones 8-10. Good for borders, beautiful planted en masse and does great in containers, too. Sold here at Creekside Nursery in 1 and 3 gallon containers.
