Montrose Purple Vitex

Also known as Chaste Tree, Vitex has aromatic green leaves and stunning long, narrow spikes of purple flowers that cover this plant in the summer months.These fragrant flowers attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.After blooming, narrow spikes of round, dark brown seeds are produced.Vitex grows shrub-like, but can be shaped into a tree form by trimming away the lower branches during its winter dormant period. They can achieve a mature size of 25 feet tall and wide. Handles hot summers, as well as tolerating short-term temperatures below Zero F. Hardy in Zones 6-10.

Daylilies

Daylilies are some of the most carefree of all flowering perennials. They can thrive in almost any type of soil, and are rarely troubled by insects or disease. The plants grow quickly, are long lived and historically have been shared from the gardens of family and friends across the country. Their dense root system reduces soil erosion and can choke out most weeds. Even when they’re not in bloom, the lush foliage makes a good backdrop for other flowers. Fatsia Japonica

Fatsia Japonica, also called Japanese Aralia, is a tropical looking evergreen shrub with large palm-like glossy green leaves. Performs beautifully in a shady garden spot and can also be grown in large containers for patio or entryway use. Produces clusters of white flowers late winter into spring. The foliage can be used in cut flower arrangements and last for weeks. Can grow up to 6 feet in height with a comparable spread and does best in Zones 7-10.

Clara Hawthorn

The Clara Hawthorn is a compact, mounding variety that displays light pink flower clusters that fade to white as they open and then form dark attractive berries that are a favorite of birds for fall and winter feeding. New growth starts off coppery red and morphs to a beautiful dark green. It easily maintains a natural round-type shape that tops out at 4-5’ tall by 4-5’ wide. A terrific flowering shrub for mass planting or low hedges that can handle bright sun to partial shade. Thrives well in Zones 7-10. Once established, they can tolerate some levels of drought and can handle poor soil conditions. Sold here at the Nursery in 3, 5 and 7 gallon sizes.

Star Jasmine

Also called Confederate Jasmine, this beautiful vine can be trained to cover arbors, trellises or fencelines or trail along as a groundcover. Considered evergreen in Zones 8-11, but can also be grown as a spilling container plant that can be moved to a protected area or brought inside when temperatures drop in cooler areas. The delicate and sweetly fragranced star-shaped white flowers stand out well against the glossy green twining leaves. Available here at Creekside Nursery in staked 1 and 5 gallon pots.
