Serena Purple Angelonia

High heat and humidity tolerant and requiring little maintenance, the Serena Purple Angelonia is a great plant for sunny borders or containers located where they will receive at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sun a day. Also known as Summer Snapdragons because of their similarly shaped blooms on spikes rising above the foliage, they do not have the trademark hinge that would allow them to ‘snap’ when touched. Serena Purple can grow up to 20" tall by 14" wide and attracts butterflies and bees. Remove dead and dying flower stalks to encourage more blooms. Available here at Creekside Nursery in a 2 gallon terra cotta container.

Natal Plum Tuttle

Bright glossy green foliage, fragrant white flowers and a sweet red edible fruit make this African native a highly desirable shrub. The fruit that is high in Vitamin C tastes similar to a sweet cranberry and can be eaten plain or made into jelly and other treats. However, watch for the double spines when gathering the berries and do not ingest any other part of the plant as it is highly toxic to humans, livestock and pets. It does best in sandy soil and full sun and copes well with salt spray and winds, making it a good choice for coastal areas. Matures to a height and spread of 2-3’ by 3-5’, is considered drought tolerant and grows best in Zones 9-11.

Bananas

Here at Creekside Nursery, we currently offer three varieties of tropical bananas. All are grown in a 3 gallon container and can thrive in Zones 8-11. The Rojo Sumatrana displays beautiful 'bloodstained' top leaves while the undersides are a deep burgundy brown. The Abbysinnian has bright green leaves with the underside spine of dark red. The Dwarf Cavendish is a large leaved plant with lush foliage that has maroon markings when young, maturing to green. This variety produces edible fruit in clusters of small yellow bananas.

Ornamental Grasses

Here at Creekside Nursery, we have an abundance of beautiful ornamental grasses. Mature sizes range from dwarf to 6+ feet tall with beautiful green, variegated or colored blades and displaying plumage colors from white to purple to pinks and cream. Planted alone as a specimen item or en masse for a show-stopping display, these grasses are sure to call attention to your landscape. Most varieties do well in Zones 5-10 and can thrive in full sun and even under some drought conditions once established. Variegated Ginger

Variegated Ginger, also known as "Shell Ginger" brings a pop of tropical interest to any shade garden. Displaying green and yellow striped leaves and a wide-spreading habit, these are moderately salt-tolerant plants that do best in filtered sun to part shade. The name Shell Ginger comes from the fragrant flowers that appear (infrequently) in warm weather, looking like strands of tiny white seashells. Performs best in Zones 8-10 with watering as needed to keep the soil moist. Has a mature growth habit of 4-6’ tall and 6-8’ wide. Works well beside pools and water features. Also makes a great container plant where growth can be more contained.
