This makes an excellent hedge, foundation shrub or small accent tree.  It is resistant to maritime exposure and salt-laden winds. It can grow right next to the sea and when grown into hedge form and can give good wind protection.  

This variety of Ligustrum features dense glossy evergreen foliage and produces clusters of white blooms in Spring. A very popular and useful shrub for foundation planting, it is also used for hedges, screens or windbreaks. Texanums are considered very fast growing but are easily maintained and can also be pruned into topiary shapes. Ligustrums do well in full sun or partial shade and are considered drought tolerant but do best if they are watered during prolonged hot, dry spells. Crape Myrtles are a favorite for fun summer color. White, pink, magenta and purple - there is a color to fit any landscape. With their multi trunks and peeling bark, they will make a great feature plant in your landscape! Plant in full sun for the best blooming. They can take very light shade however they will not have as many showy blooms. Water slowly and deeply at least once a week during the heat of the summer until they mature. Trim back in the late winter and early spring while dormant to shape, but it is not recommended to cut back too deeply. Beware of planting near a pool area as they tend to decorate your pool with their blooms and leaves. Sold here at Creekside Nursery in a variety of colors and sizes!

This Chilopsis linearis cultivar has become very popular among landscapers and retailers due to its showy, fragrant, trumpet shaped clusters of deep pink flowers. The leaves are long, slender and soft textured. ‘Bubba’ is also a favorite because it typically does not produce seed pods. ‘Bubba’ has an airy and round growth habit and can be grown as a large bush or pruned into tree form. It is highly tolerant of heat and drought and is low maintenance. It is cold hardy in USDA zones 7-9 and has been known to tolerate temperatures as low as five degrees Fahrenheit!

Relatives of the Pineapple family, Dyckias grow in a rounded rosette form with colored leaves that are edged in sharp silvery-white spines. Most produce an orangish bloom on tall spikes in late Spring that attract pollinators. Dyckias are cold hardy, heat and drought tolerant and wildlife resistant. Unlike true succulents, they do not store water for arid times in their leaves, but respond to stressful conditions by just going dormant until adequate water revives them again. They are the perfect choice for the “plant it and forget it” type of gardener in xeriscapes, rock gardens and well-drained containers.
