Cuban Gold Duranta

The Cuban Gold variety of Duranta is a well-branched and low-growing heat-loving tropical that is useful as edging or for containers. They hold their dazzling golden-chartreuse color even in the toughest of summer heat and humidity! Occasional sprays of blue flowers are followed by attractive clusters of golden non-edible berries. Very versatile plant that brightens up any landscape!

Katie Ruellia

This variety of Ruellia is a drought tolerant, durable perennial that handles heat and humidity and continues to bloom all summer-long, without deadheading. Bluish purple, petunia-like funnel-shaped flowers nestle in a background of narrow, green leaves. The shape and color of the flowers give it its other common name of Mexican Petunia. Easy to grow and maintain, they are shade tolerant but flower best when grown in sunny areas. If they get too tall or leggy for your preference, just cut them back to a few inches above the ground and they will quickly regrow and soon return to flowering. Katie Ruellia is considered disease, insect and deer resistant and is also usually evergreen in frost-free areas.

Cuphea Allyson

Also known as Mexican or False Heather, this delicate-looking but tough and durable plant with small, deep green foliage and loads of tiny pinkish-purple flowers will bloom all summer long! Can be grown as an annual in cooler climates and is great for bedding, borders, and containers in warmer climates. This plant is considered self-cleaning, so deadheading is not necessary. Cuphea Allyson will grow to be about 24 inches tall at maturity, with a spread of 24 inches. This plant does best in full sun to partial shade. It prefers evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water. It is also considered as drought tolerant. Hardy in Zones 9 and warmer, it may die back after hard frosts, but will re-grow from the roots.

Golden Goddess Bamboo

Golden Goddess Bamboo is the most popular form of non-invasive clumping bamboo that has a solid golden-yellow stalk with bright green leaves. This bamboo is smaller in stature making it a perfect choice for a living fence or privacy screen. Can also be grown in containers for a nice patio or entryway display. Golden Goddess can tolerate winter temperatures that dip for short periods of time into the high teens, making it a good choice for people living in Zone 8 – 10. Grown here at Creekside Nursery in a 5 gallon container.
