Montrose Purple Vitex is a drought-tolerant, heat-tolerant and pest-tolerant deciduous flowering shrub or small tree. It will grow between 9 and 15 feet tall with a spreading width of up to 15 feet. The violet colored flowers are great for attracting birds and butterflies into the landscape. It’s large flowers, compared to other Vitex varieties, with bloom spikes 2 to 3 times bigger than other varieties, which makes this cultivar a favorite. Blooms can be between 8 and 12 inches.
Montrose Purple Vitex grows well in all aread of Texas with both acidic and alkaline soils. From early summer until frost, you’ll have color, with the most blooms in early summer and a continued but slower rate during late summer through fall. This variety is a favorite for Texas municipalities, including Texas Department of Transportation because it is such a tough plant.
