Dyckias

Relatives of the Pineapple family, Dyckias grow in a rounded rosette form with colored leaves that are edged in sharp silvery-white spines. Most produce an orangish bloom on tall spikes in late Spring that attract pollinators. Dyckias are cold hardy, heat and drought tolerant and wildlife resistant. Unlike true succulents, they do not store water for arid times in their leaves, but respond to stressful conditions by just going dormant until adequate water revives them again. They are the perfect choice for the “plant it and forget it” type of gardener in xeriscapes, rock gardens and well-drained containers. Several varieties are sold here at Creekside in 2 gallon TC pots in colors from a deep burgundy to metallic silver.
